Order of the Crown (Romania)

The Order of the Crown of Romania was donated to the Kingdom on March 14, 1881 by statute from May 10th 1881 by King Carol I to commemorate the elevation of Romania. He was given until the end of the monarchy in 1947 and now acts as a private house of the Romanian Order of Hohenzollern -Sigmaringen.

Order of classes

The order had five classes and the number of holders of each stage was limited:

  • Grand Cross (25 )
  • Grand Officer (80 )
  • Commander ( 150)
  • Officer (300)
  • Knight unlimited in number

Order decoration

The religious character of the model of 1881 is a dark red - enamelled, eight-pointed cross of St. John with a set in gold and white edge. In the cross angles, the initials C ( Carol ) of the founder can be seen. The medallion in the middle of the cross shows the royal crown on dark red background. The medallion is surrounded by a gold-rimmed white frost, is shown in the inscription PRIN NOI INSINE ( by ourselves) as well as the foundation date 14 MARTIE 1881. On the cross back is at the Medallion of the day of the Staff Regulations and in the frost -year figures 1866 ( referendum ), 1877 (full independence ) and 1881 ( Proclamation Carol I, King of Romania).

For military merit, the Order could also be awarded with swords.

Ribbon and carrying method

The ribbon is light blue with two silver stripes.

Grand Cross wore the belt over the right shoulder to the left hip side. Great officers and commanders wore the decoration around the neck. Knights and officers wore it on the left chest. Order a star in silver on the left side of the chest was still earmarked for the two high classes. The breast star resembled a silver eight-pointed beam and contributed to the Great crosses the religious character and the Grand Officers of the medallion obverse, from 1932 by four royal crowns surrounded.
