Order of the Precious Crown

The Order of the Noble Crown (Japanese宝 冠 章, Hokan - shō ) was issued on January 4, 1888 and is a state- conferred Japanese Order.

History

Originally there were to April 13, 1896 only five award levels, then increased to 8 stages, the last two were abolished in 2003. The Order is awarded only to females, and was until 2003 as an alternative award for the Order of the Rising Sun, which could be awarded up to that point only to men. Since then, the Order of the Noble Crown is awarded to female persons from abroad. The award in the highest level is generally provided only to women members of royal houses.
