Order of the Sun of Peru

The Order El Sol del Perú (English: Order of the Sun of Peru or Peruvian sun north) is an award that, inter alia, by the Peruvian government to citizens and foreigners for special services will be awarded in the field of art, literature, politics, and other services for Peru.

History

For the first time the Order under the name of Order of El Sol was founded on October 8, 1821, by decree of General José de San Martín, to honor those who had distinguished themselves in the fight for the Peruvian independence. Since some of the Order to try to obtain by awarding more privileges, the Order on March 9, 1825 was abolished.

In commemoration of the hundredth anniversary of the independence of the Order as the Order El Sol del Perú by President Augusto B. Leguía was reintroduced by decree on 14 April 1921.

The Law of 31 August 1923 and " Reglamento " of 9 September 1923 which have been adapted several times in the following years, the still valid legal basis for the Order was created.

Gradations

José de San Martín led a three gradations of the Order:

  • Fundadores (German: Founder )
  • Beneméritos ( dt: Meritorious )
  • Asociados (German: Partner )

Today there are six grades of the Order:

  • Grand Cross with diamonds ( Collane )
  • Grand Cross (Gran Cruz )
  • Grand Officer (Gran Oficial )
  • Commander ( Comendador )
  • Officer ( Oficial )
  • Knight ( Caballero )
