History

The history of Oregon State University dates back to 1856, founded as a private academy Corvallis Academy. In 1858 it was renamed in Corvallis College and since 1865 the first courses at college level were offered. In 1868 the formal establishment of the state university under the name of the Agricultural College of the State of Oregon.
