Orlat

Orlat ( Winsberg German, Hungarian Orląt ) is a town in the district of Sibiu in Transylvania, Romania.

Location

Orlat located in Sibiu County, 17 km south-west of the county capital Sibiu ( Hermannstadt) at the mouth of Raul Sacel ( Schwarzenbach ) in the Cibin ( Zibin ).

Name

Just like almost all settlements in Southern Transylvania Orlat also has a German name ( Winsberg ), but, as usual at the places in the Marginimea Sibiului, will hardly use.

History

Orlat is the " Marginimea Sibiului ", an ethnic Romanian always influenced region in the southwest of the Transylvanian Saxon villages around Sibiu. In Orlat a Romanian Border Regiment was stationed at the time of the Austro -Hungarian monarchy.
