Orange striped butterflyfish ( Chaetodon ornatissimus )

The Orange Stripe Butterflyfish ( Chaetodon ornatissimus ) can be found from Sri Lanka and the Maldives Micronesia and the Great Barrier Reef to Hawaii, the Marquesas and Ducie. To the north it occurs to southern Japan, south to Lord Howe Island and Rapa Iti.

It prefers rich coral lagoons and outer reefs, where he is in shallow water, up to 15 meters depth. Young fish live alone and keep to between branched corals. Adult fish live in pairs or in small groups, individual animals close to Meyer's butterflyfish ( Chaetodon meyeri ), who has a similar body markings. The Orange Stripe Butterflyfish is distinctive due to its orange stripes on the sides.

The animals are 18 inches long. As a dietary specialist, he feeds on coral polyps and is therefore not suitable for keeping in a saltwater aquarium. He survived little more than a few weeks.
