Oromo Liberation Front

The Oromo Liberation Front (short: OLF; Oromiffa: Adda Bilisummaa Oromoo, Amharic ኦሮሞ ነጽነት ግንባር, English Oromo Liberation Front ) is a political and military organization in Ethiopia, which is active mainly in the south and southwest of the state of Oromia. Your goal is the establishment of an independent state of the Oromo people, which is suppressed in their view, in Ethiopia.

The armed wing of the OLF, the Oromo Liberation Army ( Oromo Liberation Army, OLA ), perpetrated occasional attacks against the Ethiopian government and the army. They cooperated to some extent with the National Liberation Front for the Ogaden ( ONLF ).

The OLF is a member of UNPO. However, their support among the Oromo population is not very large.

The Ethiopian government considers the OLF / OLA as a terrorist organization that will support the hostile government of Eritrea and was responsible for several attacks in Ethiopia. The legal opposition party of the Federal Democratic Movement of the Oromo ( WAFIDO ) are links to the Oromo Liberation Front rumored. History

The OLF was established in 1973. She was trained by the Eritrean independence movement Eritrean People's Liberation Front ( EPLF ) and cooperated with the Western Somali Liberation Front ( wslf ).

After the fall of the Derg military government in 1991, the group was initially involved in the new government of Ethiopia. However, after the 1992 elections she resigned from the government and from the transitional parliament and has since been the ruling EPRDF in the conflict. The OLF is in opposition to the ruling party in Oromia, the Democratic Organization of Oromovolkes ( OPDO ). In July 2006, she was excluded from the in 2000 she co-founded Alliance United Liberation Forces of Oromia ( Ulfo ) since they joined the political coalition Alliance for Freedom and Democracy ( AFD ).
