Ortaköy, Çorum

Ortaköy is a town and a district in the Turkish province of Çorum. The city is located about 40 kilometers southeast of the provincial capital of Çorum.

The district is located in the southeast of the province. It is bordered on the east by the province of Amasya on the south, the province of Yozgat to the west and to the north by Alaca Mecitözü. The city lies on the River Çekerek Ortaköy, a tributary of the Yeşilırmak. North of town is the mountain range Karadağ, the Hittite Šakaddunuwa. In the south of the county, part of the Buzluk Dagi runs.

Attractions

About two miles south of the town of Ortaköy is the Hittite royal residence Šapinuwa that is excavated by a team from the University of Ankara since 1990.
