Orthodox Church of France

The Orthodox Church in France is an Orthodox church fellowship, especially in France, which maintains the Western, ie Latin liturgy. Although the Orthodox Church of France in the Community or under the jurisdiction under various canonical Orthodox churches was or is, the majority of Orthodox Western Rite, France is not in communion with a canonical Orthodox Church.

History

Has its origins in the Orthodox Church Established in 1936, Western Church ( l'Eglise Orthodox Occidentale ), then as a group to Louis -Charles Winnaert ( 1880-1937 ) nachsuchte to communion with the Russian Orthodox Church. The Winnaert group also belonged to a small Benedictine community in the Rue d' Alleray in Paris. There was an Orthodox church community that used the Latin Mass with all its traditions. The first bishops were Irenaeus and John. From 1946 the fairs were held on Gallo-Roman.

In the tension between the Moscow Patriarchate and the Russian Church in exile, the French Orthodox Church came. With the death of the Bishop of Shanghai and San Francisco, John (Russian Иоанн Шанхайский ), which promoted the so-called West Mission, in 1966, rested ultimately the canonical jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church on the French Orthodox Church.

In 1972, the French Orthodox Church recognized the jurisdiction of the Romanian Orthodox Church, so as to reach the church canonicity. Because canonical irregularities pulled the Romanian Orthodox Church in 1993 its jurisdiction over the French church back so that it fell back into the status of a non-canonical church. Nevertheless, the Romanian Church established a deanery, the l' Église Orthodox Catholique de France, under the brother of the then Bishop Germain, the priest Gregoire Bertrand, for those French- Orthodox Christians, who wanted to remain under the jurisdiction of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

In 2001, after a scandal that had been caused by revelations about the marriage of the bishop Germain - although it remained unclear whether later occurred a legal separation -, left ten parishes l' Église Orthodox Catholique de France and founded the Orthodox Church in the Western rite ( Union des Associations de Cultuelles Orthodox Rite Occidental - UACORO ). The Orthodox Church of the Latin rite in western France recognized in 2004 the community with the Serbian Orthodox Church. Since 2006, this is under the jurisdiction of the formally Serbian Orthodox Bishop for Western Europe.
