Oscar Byström (composer)

Oscar Fredrik Bernadotte Byström ( born October 13, 1821 in Stockholm, † July 22, 1909 ibid ) was a Swedish composer.

Life

Oscar Byström was a son of the military musician and composer Thomas Byström ( 1810-1870 ). From 1867 to 1872 was Byström inspector of the Conservatory of Stockholm and then to 1876 Head of the Musikverein concert in Turku / Finland. Since 1882, he led his own music school in Stockholm. He is best known as the editor of medieval Swedish hymns and the hymns of Martin Luther.

Byström created some instrumental compositions, among which especially the D minor Symphony is to be mentioned as well as the overture and several numbers of the operetta Hermann Vimpel.
