Oscar Gelbfuhs

Oscar Gelbfuhs ( born November 9, 1852 in Moravian- Sternberg; † September 27, 1877 in Cieszyn, Austrian Silesia (Czech Republic / Poland) ) was an Austria - Hungarian chess master.

Gelbfuhs was a promising chess champion of the Austrian Imperial and Royal Monarchy, but died of a lawyer before unfolding his talent, not quite 25 years old.

During his participation in the international tournament in Vienna in 1873, he suggested that " we should after the end of the tournament a second table, a quality table, create, and in the same every game throughout and semi gained entry with the number of whole or half object of that enemy, against which the whole or half profit has been made. " He was a spiritual ancestor of the later more developed Sonneborn -Berger system.

Gelbfuhs ' rating system was often applied to the development of the Sonneborn -Berger system at chess tournaments.
