Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Centre
The Centro Niemeyer is an international cultural center in Aviles on Spain's Atlantic coast. It was designed by the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer Star. Funded and supported is the ' Centro Niemeyer ' by the ' International Cultural Centre Oscar Niemeyer Principality of Asturias Foundation ' (foundation Centro Cultural International Oscar Niemeyer Principality of Asturias ), in turn, on the one hand by the Autonomous Government of the Principality of Asturias, and on the other by the Spanish central government of Madrid is financed. Oscar Niemeyer: the design
When Oscar Niemeyer was the Prince of Asturias Prize awarded in 1989 for art, this was the beginning of a longstanding cooperation between Asturias and the world-famous architect. The foundation of the international Oscar Niemeyer Cultural Centre

Film Center
A permanent establishment of the Niemeyer Cultural Centre will be the " Film Centre ". It is directed by Woody Allen, who had the idea for it and she suggested the Government of the Autonomous Community of Asturias after several visits in Asturias. Activities of the Oscar Niemeyer Cultural Centre
On 26 March 2011, the Niemeyer Cultural Centre with an outdoor concert by Woody Allen and his New Orleans Jazz Band was opened. The Cultural Centre organizes since 2007 a wide range of events with renowned international guests. These include concerts, dance performances, lectures, meetings with writers and film directors, master classes and exhibitions. They take place in Avilés or in other venues in the city at the Teatro Palacio Valdés. Among the artists who participated in these events, including Yo- Yo Ma, Paco de Lucía, Woody Allen, Sam Mendes, Omar Sharif, Barbara Hendricks and Paulo Coelho. 2008 Vicky Christina Barcelona, the film director Woody Allen has been shown here for the first time. Conflicts and difficulties
In October 2011, the cultural activities were discontinued. But the center was still open to the public.
15 November 2011 it was announced that the official opening times of the Centro Niemeyer of six days were shortened to four days. In addition, the film program was discontinued. Also, cashiers and other staff were affected by the cuts. Architect Oscar Niemeyer wrote in a letter to the politicians that he hopes that they will come to an amicable solution and the Cultural Center must not be closed.
On 15 December 2011, the Centro Niemeyer was closed. A month later it was re-opened under a new name. A citizens' initiative sat through a variety of actions to ensure that the original project can be continued. On 21 June 2012, the Center received back its original name.
