Oscar Rex

Oscar Rex, Spelling of First Name Oskar ( born March 26, 1857 in Graz, † February 8, 1929 in Prague) was an Austrian genre painter.

Life

Rex grew up in his hometown of Prague. From 1876 to 1877 he was a member of the Corps Austria and from about 1889 the Corps Palaio -Austria in Prague.

In January 1878 he went to Munich to study at the Academy of Fine Arts. Subsequently, he worked from 1881 in Paris pupil of Mihály Munkácsy of (still 1886), Gustave Boulanger and Jules -Joseph Lefebvre. Around 1890 he returned to Prague.

In 1889 he participated in an exhibition of the Munich Artists' Association. 1891 drawing of him at the annual exhibition of visual artists of Vienna was shown .. At the Paris World Exposition in 1900 one of his works with a bronze medal awarded .. became known was Rex just before the First World War, when a created by him cycle of about 30 paintings was shown with scenes from the life of Napoleon Bonaparte in 38 cities.

Family

Rex came from a medical family. His grandfather was a native of Brno and practicing in Prague surgeon Franz Rex ( 1795-1855 ). Oscar Rex was born as the son of the Chief Staff Medical Practitioner and conductor of the Prague garrison hospital Ignaz Rex (1822 - after 1900 ) and his wife Emma Schulz ( 1832-1884 ). Oscars brother was professor of medicine Hugo Rex. Oscar Rex was in his first marriage to Marie Eudes (* 1860) married and after her death with the coming of Paris Thébauet Nora (* 1867).
