Oscar Schlömilch

Oscar Xavier Schlomilch ( born April 13, 1823 in Weimar, † February 7, 1901 in Dresden ) was a German mathematician.

Schlomilch studied mathematics and physics at Jena, Berlin and Vienna. He taught only in Jena, from 1849 in Dresden as a professor of mathematics. Among other things, he developed the so-called Schlömilchsche remainder representation of the Taylor expansion and wrote an important textbook on analysis. Certain series expansions Bessel functions are called Schlömilchsche rows ( Schlomilch series). The ( co-founded by him) Journal of mathematics and physics is called in older sources also called Schlömilchsche magazine.

Schlomilch died in 1901 in Dresden. He was buried in the old cemetery Anne. Instead of his tomb, which was destroyed, the memorial for professors of TU Dresden in the cemetery recalls, among other things to Schlomilch.
