Oschersleben–Jerxheim railway

History

1868 was opened with the railway line Jerxheim - Börßum a connection to the Brunswick Southern Railway to Kreiensen, which was of particular interest to the traffic in the direction of Göttingen, Kassel and Frankfurt am Main.

After the opening of the Berlin- Lehrter Railway in 1871 and the direct rail route Brunswick- Magdeburg (via Helmstedt ) in 1872, it served mainly to freight.

1922 a railway connection from the station to the sugar factory Gunsleben Aderstedt was granted. The 2.8 -kilometer track was built one year later.

After the division of Germany into occupation zones, the section between Jerxheim and Gunsleben was interrupted; the last scheduled train ran on June 30, 1945. Operation between Oschersleben and Gunsleben remained with four to six local trains per day in each direction. On May 30, 1992, this section, including the siding after Aderstedt which is mined today, was locked " for technical reasons ", explained in 1993 were buses offered as a rail replacement bus service.
