Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory

The Fabryka Emalia Oskara Schindlera (short: Fabryka Schindlera ) is a national museum in a former building of enamel ware factory of Oskar Schindler in Krakow. The museum represents the time of the German occupation of Kraków from 1939 to 1945, a special focus is the fate of the Jews in the Krakow Ghetto and Plaszow forced labor camp in comparison to those employed in Schindler's factory. Also, references to the film Schindler's List, which was filmed partly in the building are made. The museum was opened in 2010 and is part of the Historical Museum of Krakow.

Building and exhibition

The museum is located in Ulica Lipowa 4 ( lime street) in an industrial area of Krakow's Podgórze. The three-story museum building housed the management of Schindler's Enamelware Factory. Built by Schindler at the factory site camp for the Jews employed by him is not extant. After the Second World War, the factory was nationalized and produced telecommunications equipment. After the end of socialism in Poland a privatized successor company went into bankruptcy. In 2005, the city of Krakow acquired the land with the administration building.

The museum was designed and implemented from 2007 to 2010, the costs amounted to 3.7 million euros. On 11 June 2010, the official opening took place. The permanent exhibition is titled " Krakow under the German occupation, 1939-1945 ", in Schindler's list represented people and circumstances bear only part of the exhibition.
