Osman Saleh Mohammed

Osman Saleh Mohammed ( b. 1948 in Asmara, Eritrea ) is an Eritrean politician.

Biography

After the independence of Eritrea on 24 May 1993 he was appointed by President Isaias Afewerki for the first minister of education of the country. As such, he initiated the transition of the school system of the revolutionary Eritrean People's Liberation Front ( EPLF ) in a national school system. In addition, under it was the obligation of all graduating classes (Grade XII) of the country to follow a course of Sawa Defence Training Centre ( Warsay Yika'alo School).

As part of a Government reshuffle President Afewerki appointed him on 18 April 2007 as the new foreign minister. Saleh Mohammed is also a member of the Unity Party of the People's Front for Democracy and Justice ( PFDJ ).

Eritrea and Iran have begun shortly after taking office, so to expand their economic relations. In early May 2008, he traveled together with Finance Minister Berhane Abrehe at the head of a delegation to Tehran and prepared in the same month a meeting between President Afewerki and the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. In September 2008, the issue of an entry visa was denied by Canada, which led to severe criticism of Canada on the part of Eritrea.
