Ossiach Tauern

The Ossiacher Tauern (Slovenian: Osojske Ture, popularly known simply Turje ) is a woody mountain range in Carinthia between Lake Ossiach in the northwest and the Wörthersee in the southeast. The highest point of Ossiacher Tauern is the Taubenbühel with 1069 m above sea level. A.. At its western end is located on a prominent hill visible from afar the Landskron Castle. Not far from the revitalized as a restaurant and Greifvogelwarte castle can be reached along the Tauern trail to Jungfernsprung, a steeply for Ossiach sloping rock formation, of which one has a magnificent view of the western part of the lake and the Gerlitze. In the vernacular, the Ossiacher Tauern are also called the small Tauern. In the hamlet Tauern top of the hill stands the church Tauern. In the northeast is located above the lead instead of the ruins Prägrad.

History

The Ossiach, conveniently located, but wedged between Ossiach and Ossiacher Tauern, had little agricultural land in the immediate vicinity of the pen. So it has resorted to the plateau of the Tauern. Essentially determined is the present use of the Ossiacher Tauern by the abbots of the 16th century, Reiner and Konrad, the intensified agriculture on the Tauern and began breeding horses. The horses were the peasants made ​​available, with the aim to increase their productivity.

The abbey was dissolved in 1783 by Emperor Joseph II and fell, with the Tauern mountain, in the possession of the state. Horse breeding, however, remained intact, some cavalry horses were bred for military purposes.

1932 Ossiacher Tauern was the country's Cultural Council, the forerunner of the Chamber of Agriculture of Carinthia, leased. The stallion rearing was supplemented by a bull rearing. 1935 bought the Chamber of Agriculture newly founded Ossiach Tauern. Today ( as of 2006) are mainly grown in the Noric and Haflinger Aufzuchthof Ossiacher Tauern.
