Österlen Line

The train route Ystad - Simrishamn is a Swedish railway track in Skåne. It has a length of 46 km. The standard gauge line is continuous single-track and electrified. Owner of the track is the Swedish state. Operators of the route is the company Skånetrafiken.

The since the naming of the railway lines at the beginning of the 1990s by Swedish Banverket Österlenbanan designated route consists of two historic track parts which were built by two different private railway companies.

History

Section Ystad Tomelilla

This route is part of the rest of the built Ystad - Eslövs Järnvägsaktiebolag and 1866 went into operation distance between Ystad about Tomelilla after Eslöv leading railway line. This was the first railway line, which reached Ystad.

Section Tomelilla Simrishamn

On March 24, 1882 Simrishamn Tomelilla Järnväg ( CTJ ) received a concession for the construction of a line between Tomelilla and Simrishamn. On December 16, 1882 The route for public transport has been released. The construction costs were estimated at 663,000 crowns, and the acquisition of the vehicles cost 137,000 crowns. Early 1896 bought the Malmö - Tomelilla Järnväg ( MöToJ ) on the Simrishamn Tomelilla Järnväg ( CTJ ) and was renamed Malmö Simrishamns Järnvägar ( MSJ ).

Operation

In 1991, the newly founded Österlentåg AB from the Swedish State Railways freight on the Köpingebro - Simrishamn section. In 1994, however, the Österlentåg AB was insolvent.

In 1996, the Ystad station was electrified as part of the electrification of the railway between Malmö and Ystad. Then it was decided to electrify the section Simrishamn. 2001 began preparations to do so. The following summer, the track was completely blocked and renewed it. On September 20, 2003 saw the reopening of the electrical equipment on the track.
