Geography

The river rises on the western flank of the 1,011 m high Te waiti Hill in the area of ​​Urutawa Conservation Area, flows in a right curve to the north and limits the city Opotiki from the west and north, then on the west side of town about two miles off the coast to open into the Waioeka River. The Otara River drains an area of 350 km2.

Use
