Otia Ioseliani

Otia ( Otija ) Iosseliani (Georgian ოტია იოსელიანი; born June 16, 1930 in Gwischtibi, Imereti, Georgia, † 14 July, 2011 Zqaltubo, Imereti, Georgia) was a Georgian writer and playwright.

Life

Otia Iosseliani studied at the Pedagogical Institute in Kutaisi Georgian language, literature and psychology, and later at the Art Academy.

In 1957 he published his first children's book, door neighbors. In 1960, an adventure book, The Adventures of a headless boy. 1959 to 1961 he took part in a course at the Moscow Institute of Literature, became a freelance writer. In the same year he published the novel Starfall and his play A man endures only once was premiered at the National Theatre in Tbilisi Rustaveli.

His works have been translated into 17 languages, including into English and German. Iosseliani lived with his partner in Gwischtibi at Zqaltubo in the region of Imereti.
