Ottmar Ette

Ottmar Ette ( born December 14, 1956 in Gengenbach, Schwarzwald) is Romanist and comparatist (Professor of Romance Literature and General and Comparative Literature) at the University of Potsdam.

Life

Ottmar Ette his doctorate in 1990 at the University of Freiburg with a thesis on José Martí and his habilitation in 1995 at the Catholic University of Eichstätt- Ingolstadt Roland Barthes. He has had several guest lectures in various Latin American countries, Europe and the USA and understands Romance as promoting intercultural and transdisciplinary active science.

Ottmar Ette is since 2012 Chevalier of the French Ordre des Palmes Académiques and tidy since 2010 Member of the Academia Europaea. From 2004 to 2005 he was a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study Berlin. From April 2010 to July 2010 he was a Fellow at the FRIAS ( Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies). He is co-founder of ForLaBB ( Latin America Research Network Berlin- Brandenburg).

He is also founder and co-editor of the electronic journal HiN - Alexander von Humboldt in the Net ( ISSN: 1617-5239 ) and the Humboldt - platform avhumboldt.de - Humboldt information online, as well as co-editor of the journal Iberoamericana (Madrid - Frankfurt am Main). Since 2009 he is also co-editor of the electronic journal Istmo ( Revista de estudios virtual Literarios y culturales Centroamericanos, ISSN: 1535-2315 ).

His research and teaching, the following priorities are: Alexander von Humboldt, literature as life science, convivence, trans Area Studies: poetics of movement and Literatures of the Francophonie and Hispanophonie ( in and outside Europe). Effect

With the written by Ottmar Ette manifesto " Literature as Life Science - A program writing in the humanities, " a discussion was sparked, which went far beyond the humanities and cultural studies circles. Its publication was followed in the next issue of the quarterly magazine three more dossiers also numerous events and reviews, including the time. Awards and prizes

For the manuscript of his new edition of Alexander von Humboldt: journey to the equinoctial regions (ed., 2 vols island 1991) Ottmar Ette was awarded the 1987 Heinz Maier -Leibnitz Prize for José Martí ( Niemeyer 1991, Translator México: UNAM 1995) 1991 of the young Scientist award for Romance Literature at the University of Freiburg, Roland Barthes - An intellectual Biography ( Suhrkamp 1998) was awarded the 2001 Hugo Friedrich and Erich Köhler research Award. In 2013 he was elected to the Berlin- Brandenburg Academy of Sciences.
