Otto Friedrich Theodor von Möller

Life

Friedrich Möller was a son of the Russian Navy Minister Admiral Otto Berend Moeller (1764-1848) and his wife Julie of Nolcken. He was assigned to the Marine Corps in 1817, was ensign in 1829 and later adjutant of the regiment commander. During leisure, Möller studied at the Art Academy.

He participated in the Polish- Russian war and painted after returning a picture of the Battle of Ostrolenko. In 1835 he resigned from the military and joined the Academy. Here he was a student of Brülow.

In 1839 he moved to Rome. For his painting " The Kiss", he received the large gold medal of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts and was accepted as member. 1847 piloted Möller again to Italy and came under the influence of Friedrich Overbeck. In 1857 he was appointed professor and received the Wladimirorden. In 1856 the estate Möller Sall on the island of Saaremaa, the homeland of his parents.

He also pointed out commissioned paintings for the Church of the Redeemer in Moscow, St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg and the Alexander Hall in the Kremlin.
