Otto Neumann

Otto Neumann ( born August 28, 1902 in Karlsruhe, † April 12, 1990 in Mannheim, Germany ) was a German athlete.

Life

He was 1922 and 1924 for starting the MTG Mannheim German champion over 400 meters. In 1927, he won the title with the 4 x 400 - meter relay ( Hübner, Erich Rennell, Otto Neumann, Klähn ) of the DSC Berlin. The following year, he became German champion in the 400 meter hurdles and the 4 x 400 - meter relay ( Otto Neumann, Herbert Böcher, Reinhold Schmidt, Hermann Engelhard ) of the SC Teutonia 1899 Berlin.

Neumann was nominated for the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. There he was eliminated in the individual 400 meters in the intermediate run. With the German 4 x 400 - meter relay ( Otto Neumann, Werner Storz, Richard Krebs, Hermann Engelhard ), however, he won the European best time of 3:14,8 min the silver medal. He had a competition weight of 71 kg at a height of 1.78 m.

He was graduate gymnastics and sports teacher and was awarded his doctorate. At the University of Heidelberg, he was Honorary Professor of Physical Education. From 1938 to 1940 he coached the SV Waldhof Mannheim and reached with the team in 1939 the cup final. In 1952 he initiated the establishment of the basketball department of the USC Heidelberg. From 1955 to 1957 he was chairman of the association of old athletes, the merger of the German champions.

Neumann was in 1955 awarded the Carl- Diem - badge of the DSB and 1982 with the Federal Cross of Merit.
