Ottokar I of Styria

Otakar I, also Otakar († March 29, 1075 (?) In Rome) was Graf im Chiemgau and Margrave of Carantanians Mark.

Life

Ottokar was a Traungau, son of Otakar / Oci V. († 1020) and Willibirg, daughter of Arnold II of Wels- Lambach. In the year 1048 (?) He is attested as Count in Chiemgau. After the extinction of the Counts of Wels- Lambach he was from 1056 Margrave of Carantanians Mark, for which subsequently became common in Traungau the name Steiermark to his castle Steyr. He was with Willibirg of Eppenstein, possibly a daughter of Duke of Carinthia Adalbero married. He was co-heir of the Wels- Lambach goods and after 1056 Vogt of Lambach. He was also governor of Traunkirchen, Obermünster and Donau and co-founder of the congregation Admont. He was also involved in the founding of the monastery Garsten as collegiate.

His sons Adalbero ( king's party ) and Ottokar ( Pope Party) fought each other in the Investiture Controversy. Margrave Adalbero fell while in combat in 1082, and was Margrave Ottokar.
