Ottorino Pietro Alberti

Ottorino Pietro Alberti ( born December 17, 1927 in Nuoro, Sardinia, Italy, † July 17, 2012 ibid ) was a Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cagliari.

Life

Ottorino Pietro Alberti studied agricultural sciences at the University of Pisa, and then entered the seminary. After his theological and philosophical training he received on March 18, 1956 by the Bishop of Nuoro, Giuseppe Melas, the ordination. He became general secretary of the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. In parallel, he studied theology and dealt with the subject of science and faith. He was a professor and rector of the Seminary of Cagliari.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 9 August 1973 Archbishop of Spoleto and the bishop of Norcia. The Pro - Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, Sebastiano Baggio, donated to him on 8 September of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Giuseppe Bonfigioli, Archbishop of Cagliari, and Giovanni Melis Fois, Bishop of Nuoro. Following the unification of the Diocese of Norcia with the Archdiocese of Spoleto he was on 30 September 1986 as Archbishop of this Archdiocese.

On November 23, 1987, he was appointed Archbishop of Cagliari. He was also President of the Episcopal Conference of Sardinia. On 20 June 2003 Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.

He was a member of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and initiated inter alia, the beatification process of Simona Tronci. He was honorary canon of the Cathedral of Nuoro.
