Ouachita County, Arkansas

The Ouachita County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Camden.

Geography

The County is located in south-central Arkansas, is located in the south about 60 miles from Louisiana and has an area of 1,916 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Ouachita County was formed on November 29, 1842 from parts of Union County 45th county in Arkansas. It was named for the Ouachita River, which flows through the county.

The first school building was erected in 1871. By 1880, the main passenger and goods transport was done by the steam navigation. The main customers of the goods produced were Baton Rouge and New Orleans. After 1880 came through the Reader Railroad, then known as the Possum Trot Line, the railroad in the county. The train fostered the emergence of new Staädte and communities.

1907 Garland Anthony began with a small sawmill, from which to this day the company Anthony Timberlands was created. 1928 was added in the production of paper, now International Paper Company.
