Outer London Defence Ring

The Outer London Defence Ring (English Outer London Defence Ring) was a British, created during World War II defensive line.

The applied as the main defensive position line should protect the Greater London area. The defense system begins in the north of London and extends annularly around the city, following roughly the course of the present highway M 25, from Watford over the River Colne, according to Potters Bar, Cuffley, Nazeing, then south through Epping Forest, Loughton and Chigwell. This line of defense was built against a potential German invasion of England ( Operation Sea Lion ). The position consisted of so-called pillbox bunkers and anti-tank ditches. The defense position was created under the leadership of General Edmund Ironside from June 1940. The highly advanced construction was a few weeks later hired by his successor, General Alan Brooke.
