Outer space

Extra Terrestrial (from Latin extra, " outside " and terra, "earth" ) means - as distinct from terrestrial - alien. The whole universe except the earth, including its atmosphere is so extra- terrestrial.

Celestial bodies are referred to as extra- terrestrial in astronomy, which are located outside of planet Earth, including its atmosphere or having their origin. The Extraterrestrial Physics deals with physical phenomena outside the Earth and is closely related to astrophysics. Astronomical objects whose origin is not in the solar system are also referred to as extra- solar. Thus, planet orbiting another central star than the Sun, called extrasolar planets.

Used is extraterrestrial in connection with possibly -existing alien life, which plays a role in exobiology and in science fiction literature and films.
