Typical seam varieties

Typical seams of an overlock machine are:

(also known as 4-thread overlock seam or composite )

( The safety seam is produced automatically by the right needle thread. )

( 3 -, rarely, 2- ply )

(2 or 3 threads )

The seam is produced by a change in thread tension, in conjunction with most decorative threads.

( The four -thread overcast seam provides a hold of the edge by broader, coherent seam and is thus more popular ).

( 2 threads )

From above the seam looks like the straight stitch a household sewing machine, from below the seam looks like a chain. Application: For joining of solid materials, such as upholstery fabrics or denim. The stitch is also used as decorative stitching.

The name comes from the English. To lock block is called. In the typical sewing machine seam of the lower thread locks the needle thread so that it does not come loose from the seam. Over in Overlock refers to the fact that is sewn over an edge.
