Owens Valley Radio Observatory
The Owens Valley Radio Observatory ( OVRO ) is a radio astronomy observatory in California.
OVRO is a facility of the California Institute of Technology, and is located near Bishop east of the Sierra Nevada, about 400 miles north of Los Angeles in 1222 m height. The most important radio telescopes of OVRO are:
- A millimeter interferometer of six antennas, each 10.4 m in diameter. This instrument has been displaced in 2005 as part of CARMA to another location.
- Two radio telescopes with 40 m and 5.5 m diameter antenna for studies of the cosmic background radiation.
- An interferometer consists of two telescopes with 27 m diameter and 2 m in diameter with three antennas for radio observations of the sun.
- A telescope with a 25 m diameter of the distributed about the U.S. Very Long Baseline Array.
