Chlorocresol is a chlorinated cresol ( or methyl phenol) and thus belongs to the group of chlorine, methyl phenols. It is in turn a phenol derivative.

Use

Chlorocresol place despite its sensitizing properties ( allergy out expectorant ) as a disinfectant variety of applications. In the preservation of leather, it is used to replace the banned since 1989 pentachlorophenol. It may also in textiles, glue, paints, adhesives and inks occur. Furthermore, it is used as an intermediate for preparation of herbicides.

In medicine it is also used for tumor-related pain for neurolysis in the spine.

Safety

PCMC 's skin or mucous membranes and sensitization (allergic contact dermatitis). On combustion, may cause highly toxic substances ( phosgene).
