P. A. Backer

PA Backer ( Malayalam: പി.എ. ബക്കർ; * 1940 in Thrissur, Cochin, † November 22, 1993 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala ) was an Indian film director of Malayalam film.

Life

PA Backer worked as a journalist for the newspaper " Kuttikal " and " Poomattukal ", then from 1960 as assistant to the film director Ramu Kariat. In 1969 he was an independent producer of PN Menon Olavum Theeravum, a major work of the New Indian Cinema in Malayalam. As a debut as a director Backer published in 1975, the political drama of love Kabani Nadi Chuvannappol, which suffered censorship cuts the time in the context of the emergency government in India. The film influenced the work of other keralesischer directors like John Abraham, Raveendran and TV Chandran. To Backers important films include also his subsequent socially critical films Manimuzhakkum (1976 ), Chuvanna Vithukal (1976) and Sanghaganam (1979). His Shri Narayana Guru (1985 ) was awarded the Nargis Dutt Award for National Integration.
