P. Chandrasekhara Rao

P. Chandrasekhara Rao ( Chandrasekhar Rao Patibandla; born April 22, 1936 in Veerulapadu, Andhra Pradesh ) is an Indian jurist. He works since October 1996 as a judge of the International Tribunal for the Law and was its president from 1999 to 2002.

Life

P. Chandrasekhara Rao studied law at the University of Madras and was followed from 1963 to 1967 worked for the Indian Society of International Law in the field of research. He subsequently joined the Indian Foreign Ministry, where he worked until 1976 as a legal advisor. In addition, he served from 1972 to 1976 as legal adviser to the Permanent Mission of his native country at the United Nations ( UN) in New York. From 1976 to 1996, he worked in various positions in the Indian Ministry of Justice. In parallel, he was a visiting professor at Osmania University in Hyderabad (1994/1995), at the Kakatiya University in Warangal (1994/1995) and at the University of Madras (1995 /1996). From 1994 to 2000 he served as Vice President of the Indian Society of International Law.

Since October 1, 1996 he has been a judge at the written in the same year the International Tribunal in Hamburg. From 1999 to 2002 he was President of the Court.

2012 P. Chandrasekhara Rao was awarded the Padma Bhushan Indian State Order.
