Paa Grant

Alfred George Grant, also called Paa Grant ( born August 15, 1878 Beyin, Ghana; † 30 October 1956 Axim ), was a leading politician and entrepreneur in Ghana. Outside of the Big Six independence history of the country Grant was one of the most important people that are to count as a liberal supporter of the independence of Ghana. Grant has still a reputation as a selfless politician.

Party founder

Grant was next to Joseph Boakye Danquah, RA Awoonor -Williams, William Ofori - Atta, Ebenezer Ako - Adjei, Edward Akufo - Addo and the other in August 1948 co-founder of the first party of the former British colony of the Gold Coast, the United Gold Coast Convention ( UGCC ). He was at the time already a wealthy timber merchant of the richest man in the gold coast. Grant had at times held the chairmanship of the party UGGC and continued his private assets partially to finance the party. In addition to the party presidency by Grant RS Blay was first deputy chairman of the party, Danquah second deputy Ako - Adjei and party secretary.

Grant is said to have financed the return Kwame Nkrumah from the UK at that time, so that he could replace the professionally clamped in their law firms lawyers and other co-founder of the party as the new Secretary General.

Grant was a member of the Legislative Council of Ghana ( Legislative Council ), and the Provincial Council ( Provincial Council). He had a major influence on the introduction of public street lighting in Ghana, and to the construction of underground water pipes in Sekondi and Axim County.

Honors

After AG Grant, a street was named in Tema and built an image in the form of a statue in the middle of a roundabout in Takoradi. In the current debate surrounding the reinforcing return to heavyweights of Ghanaian history to other places are named after Grant. So to a large road bridge be named after Grant ( Alajo overhead). Furthermore, the roundabout is to be renamed with his statue in Takoradi in Paa Grant Roundabout.
