Paata Burchuladze

Paata Burchuladze (Georgian პაატა ბურჭულაძე, in English transcription Burchuladze; born February 12, 1955 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian opera singer in the bass voice.

Life

Burchuladze received vocal training at the singing teachers Olimpi Chelaschwili in Tbilisi. He sang during the period of study at the State Zahari - Paliashvili Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Because of his special talent, he received a scholarship that enabled him to continue his education in Milan with Giulietta Simionato and Eduardo Mueller and complete.

Career and awards

In 1981 he won first prize in the singing competition Voci Verdiane in Busseto, Italy. In 1982, he won the gold medal and first prize at the prestigious Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition. In 1985, he won the Luciano Pavarotti Competition in Philadelphia, USA.

His debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, he gave as Ramfis in Aida alongside Luciano Pavarotti as Radames. Other debuts followed at La Scala and the Vienna State Opera 's Luisa Miller, again at the Pavarotti page. Herbert von Karajan, who described the artist as " second Chaliapin ", brought him to the Salzburg Festival, where he has since been repeatedly heard in concerts. Another high point in the career Burtschuladses was his performance in the title role in Boris Godunov in the opening performance of the Metropolitan Opera in the 1990/91 season.

Repertoire

Burtschuladses repertoire includes the great bass roles of Verdi especially the Russian repertoire and the most important French bass roles. He also has great repertoire of songs by Russian composers.
