Paavo Arhinmäki

Paavo Erkki Arhinmäki ( born December 13, 1976 in Helsinki) is a Finnish politician ( Left Alliance ).

2001 Arhinmäki member of the Helsinki City Council. He was also from 2001 to 2005 chairman of the Left Youth ( Vasemmistonuoret ), the Jugendorgansiation the Left Alliance. In 2007 he was elected to the Finnish parliament. In June 2009, he was chairman of the party of the Left Alliance. After the 2011 parliamentary elections, in which Arhinmäki was with 17 226 votes the most successful candidate in the electoral district of Helsinki, it was culture and sports minister in the Cabinet Katainens. In the presidential elections in Finland 2012, he was a candidate of the Left Alliance and was 5.5 % of the votes in sixth. He is committed to ensuring that Finland is not a full member of NATO. NATO holds Arhinmäki for a relic of the Cold War. Other topics in the election campaign, the widening gap between rich and poor as well as the behavior of the Finns towards minorities, which moved in particular by the enormous electoral success of the " True Finns " in the 2011 elections in the spotlight.

Arhinmäki studied political science. He is married to the veterinarian Päivi Lahti, the couple are expected for 2012, the birth of a girl. At the World Athletics Meisterschafte 2013 in Russia, he gained the wider public attention when he waved the rainbow flag and thus a protest sign for more gay rights (LGBT in Russia) wanted to demonstrate in Russia.
