Paavo Nurmi Stadium

The Paavo Nurmi Stadium (Finnish Paavo Nurmen Stadium ) is named after the 1973 deceased exceptional Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi.

The name change was made after renovation work on 13 June 1997 on the 100th anniversary of his birth city of Turku. The old stadium was in the 1890s during the construction of the Sports Park (Finnish: Urheilupuisto ) has been created in the city.

In the multi -purpose stadium of 13,000 spectators place, and it is mostly used for football matches and sports competitions.

In the stadium, 20 world records were set: John Landy at the 1500 meters and the mile run (1954 ), Paavo Nurmi about 3,000 m ( 1922), Emil Zatopek (1950) and Ron Clarke ( 1965) in the 10,000 m, Viljo Heino at hours of operation (1945 ) and the 20 km (1949 ), Matti Järvinen in the javelin (1932) and Charles Hoff in the pole vault (1925 ).
