Pacajes Province

Pacajes is one of twenty provinces in the southwestern part of the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location

The province is located in the Bolivian Altiplano and is bordered to the north and northwest of the province Ingavi, on the west by the province of José Manuel Pando, on the southwest by the Republic of Chile, in the southeast on the department of Oruro, in the east by the province Gualberto Villarroel, and in the northeast to the provincial flavor.

The province extends between about 16 ° 45 'and 18 ° 03' south latitude and 68 ° 05 ' and 69 ° 30 ' west longitude, its width from northwest to southeast is 85 km, its length from northeast to southwest 150 km.

Population

The population of the province Pacajes has risen in the past two decades by about a third:

77.2 percent of the population speaking Spanish, 1.5 percent speak Quechua, Aymara and 93.8 percent. (1992)

96.6 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 85.8 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

61.4 percent of the population are Catholics, 29.4 percent are Protestant (1992).

  • Municipio de Nazacara Pacajes - 491 inhabitants
  • Municipio Waldo Ballivián - 1,996 inhabitants
