Paco Vidarte

Francisco " Paco" Javier Fernández Vidarte (* March 1, 1970 in Seville, † January 29, 2008 in Madrid) was a Spanish philosopher, writer and dedicated LGBT activist.

Biography

After studying philosophy ( graduate of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas ( UPC) in Madrid), psychoanalysis (Master, Complutense University of Madrid ) and a degree in education ( Certificado de aptitud Pedagógica (CAP ), UPC / Madrid ) he obtained on 27. November 1998 a doctorate in philosophy at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia ( UNED) in Madrid, with a thesis on Jacques Derrida.

Since the mid- 1990s Paco Vidarte was an active member of the Spanish, notably the Madrid homosexual movement. He was first a member of the gay movement "Radical Gai " and later became one of the leading thinkers and theorists of the Spanish LGBT movement. He brought first the theme " Teoría Queer " ( Queer Theory ) at the University and has published several internationally acclaimed books and articles both Derrida and about the LGBT.

At the UNED he held a chair at the Philosophy Department of the Faculty of Arts since 2002 until his death. He died from the effects of HIV infection in combination with lymphatic cancer in Madrid.
