Pada ( German Paddas ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Viru Nigula ( Viru - Nigula vald ) in the Estonian Lääne- Viru ( German West Wierland ).

Description

Pada has 58 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). It is located 23 kilometers north-east of Rakvere ( Wesenberg ).

The village lies on the River Padajõgi. The river valley is set as a " conservation area Padaoru " ( Padaoru maatikukaitseala ) under direct protection.

Pada was first mentioned in documents in 1241 in Liber Census Daniæ. In Pada are two larger mounds of pagan Estonians.

Good Pada

Since 1505 the good Pada is occupied. In the second half of the 18th century it belonged to the Russian diplomats Otto Magnus von Stackelberg ( 1736-1800 ). Later it passed into the ownership of the Manteuffel family. A daughter married Manteuffel Moritz von Kotzebue, a son of the playwright August von Kotzebue. Last owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was Alfred Otto von Schilling.

This prestigious mansion of Pada completed in 1782 in the style of early classicism. The plans were designed by the architect Jean -Baptiste Vallin de la Mothe Michel (1729-1800), who lived in Russia since 1759. He was a student of Jacques -François Blondel. The zweieinhalbgeschossige building with its three projections and numerous Stukkornamenten was surrounded by a large park. Since 1917 the building after a fire only ruin.
