Paediatric Glasgow Coma Scale

The Pediatric Glasgow Coma Scale or Pediatric Glasgow Coma Scale ( PGCS ) is a simple scale for assessing impaired consciousness. It was further developed analogous to the Glasgow coma scale for children. This most widely used evaluation scheme for describing the state of consciousness was developed in Glasgow, Scotland. There are three categories, will be awarded for each of points:

  • Eye opening
  • Best verbal response to speech
  • Best motor (movement ) response

The use of the Glasgow coma scale in children under the age of 36 months because of the lack of verbal communication ability is restricted. Therefore, this modified scale was developed for younger children. The maximum score is 15, the minimum 3 points. The Glasgow coma scale is used for example in assessing the severity of a traumatic brain trauma, but also in general use in neurology.
