Page footer

The footer (not to be confused with footnote) is detached from the main text at the bottom ( foot ) of text pages and allows quick orientation and navigation within a written work. For example, the footer mention the author and title of the work, the paragraph number and name of the opened chapter or page numbering and the title of the open section in the short form. Most footnotes or endnotes are placed in close proximity above it.

At the same orientation or navigation purposes, a footer can serve a header, only this is at the top ( head ) of text pages. Whether a text with header, footer with, or both is provided, and what purpose information is distributed among these, choose author or publisher.

Through the use of anglicisms in the German language circulating particularly in the IT sector and the English equivalent footer or page- footer.

Webdesign

The uses of footers in web design are varied and are discussed controversially. Some sites use the footer as the main navigation, to other it is used as a site map. When other sites only the copyright notice or a Contacts link is often depicted.

According to an appealing Footer is considered by some web designers as an effective means for the binding of customer interest.

Other web designer, however, assume that an overloaded Footer, makes little sense because of loss of load time and due to the low willingness of the user to scroll to the bottom of the website.
