Pahlen

The family of the PAHLEN (Russian Пален ) is a Russian, Lithuanian and Swedish family of German - Baltic origin. Presumably, the family came from Pomerania, but moved at the beginning of the 15th century to Livonia. The first known mention of the family dates back to the year 1120 as a Johannes de Pala was governor of Riga.

On September 18, 1679 the five brothers of the family with their descendants of King Karl XI were. charged by Sweden in the hereditary baron. In 1799, Tsar Paul to Peter Ludwig rose from the PAHLEN the title of count. By decisions of the Russian provinces in 1755 and 1865 most of the other family members of the PAHLEN were collected in a baron of the Russian Empire.
