Pahu

Pahu is a Hawaiian name for the traditional drums of various sizes. The Pahu is one of the instruments that brought the Polynesian immigrants in the colonization of Hawaii from Tahiti.

The body consists of a covered with shark skin hollowed-out tree, which is often decorated at the bottom with openwork carving. The eardrum is attached with cords. The making of such an instrument only with hand- operated tools is part of the traditional education of a Kumu Hula ( Hula Master Teacher ) in Hawaii.

The drums are beaten by hand.
