Päivi Alafrantti

Päivi Maarit Jaana Alafrantti ( born May 8, 1964 in Tervola ) is a former Finnish athlete. She was the first Finnish European champion in the javelin. At a height of 1.78 m, they had a competition weight of 82 kg.

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul Päivi Alafrantti threw the spear in qualifying at 62.82 meters. In the preliminaries she reached then only 58.20 meters and was ranked 10th in 1989 was Alafrantti Finnish champion and won bronze at the Universiade.

1990 at the European Championships in Split her three litters were given invalid in qualifying. The Finnish team management lodged a protest and the jury decided that Alafrantti should participate in the Finals. While her teammates Tiina Lillak and Heli Rantanen were eliminated in the preliminaries, Päivi Alafrantti improved in the final battle her personal best by more than two meters and won with 67.68 meters gold before Karen Forkel ( 67.56 meters) and Petra Felke ( 66.56 meters) from the GDR.

At the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo Alafrantti finished with 62.26 meters 8th place in Barcelona at the Olympic Games in 1992 she succeeded in qualifying a valid attempt. She was once more Finnish Champion 1993.

In the Finnish thrower Indoor Championships on March 24, 1990 in Kuopio ( Finland), it achieved a Hallenweltbestleistung with 59,12 m.
