Pakistanis in Austria

The more than 1,000 Pakistanis in Austria (2005 ) provide a numerically slightly smaller, but economically and politically significant Austrian minority.

In 1991 lived in Austria 900 Pakistanis. From a demographic point of view was the majority of the Austro- Pakistanis from men; few came as asylum seekers, some have now but also Austrian citizenship.

The Pakistani communities in Austria are mainly located in the capital city of Vienna and is well integrated into society. The organization Minhaj ul-Quran opened a local office in Austria, recognized by the Austrian Government, which is operated and organized by the Pakistani community. The organization also arranges several Islamic gatherings.

The Austro - Pakistani company based in Vienna has set itself the care of Austria's cultural and scientific contacts with Pakistan and the promotion of the understanding of politics, economy and society of Pakistan in wider circles to the destination. In addition, some members of the Austro- Pakistani company successfully engaged in educational and humanitarian projects and in promoting sporting activities in Pakistan. In 2009, Ms. Claudia Wachtel was elected as the new president of the company, after Dr. Friedrich Posch had ( former Austrian Ambassador to Pakistan) this function exercised for 10 years.

In 2009, 21 Pakistanis were being held in Austrian prisons because of illegal immigration. The Government of Pakistan tried to solve through their message these cases.
