Pál Kadosa

Pál Kadosa [ pa ː l kɒdoʃɒ ] ( born September 6, 1903 in Léva, Austria - Hungary, † April 30, 1983 in Budapest) was a Hungarian composer and pianist.

Life and work

Kadosa studied with Zoltán Kodály and Zoltán Székely at the Budapest Conservatory. He worked as a piano teacher and a professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. His students included György Ligeti, György Kurtág, Zoltán Kocsis, Dezso Ránki, Andor Losonczy and Jenő Jandó. He wrote two violin concertos (Op. 19 and Op 32) and four concertos for piano, as well as symphonies, divertimenti, chamber music, cantatas, film and radio music, and the opera The Adventures of Huszt. In many of his songs you recognize the rhythmic and melodic elements of Hungarian folk music again, which were involved some very daring. Kadosa has been repeatedly awarded the Kossuth and the Erkel Prize. He was a member of the German Academy of the Arts.
