Palazzo Abatellis

The Galleria Regionale della Sicilia in Palermo is Sicily's most comprehensive art museum. It is located in the old town at the Palazzo Abatellis and shows works of Sicilian painting and sculpture from the Middle Ages to modern times.

Collection

Among the masterpieces in the collection is a fresco of the Triumph of Death motif in the former palace chapel. It was painted in the 15th century by an unknown master of the Civil Hospital in the Palazzo Sclafani. Another major work is the portrait of the Annunciation Madonna " Annunziata di Palermo " of the Renaissance painter Antonello da Messina.

In addition to numerous paintings, the museum houses sculptures ( 12th to 16th century), including sculptures by Antonello Gaginis and Vincenzo Gaggini, and Moorish ceramics ( 13th to 16th century).
