History

The building is the headquarters of the Jesuit College of the Vatican City and originally served as the headquarters of the Jesuits led by the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith ( " de Propaganda Fide " ), which was founded in 1622.

Originally commissioned as the architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1646 was replaced by Francesco Borromini, as its style of his patron, Innocent X was preferred. Borromini's design of the facade is divided by powerful pilasters, between which the windows of the first floor are offset inward, while the center yoke bulge forward. A bar separates the ground floor from the first floor, but the cornice of the center yoke swings inward again. This artistic and architectural generated unrest is considered exemplary performance of Baroque Rome.

This is not accessible to the public building now houses a Jesuit college, the 1622 by Pope Gregory XV. Founded Collegio di Propaganda Fide. Borromini built a Cappella dei Re Magi ( Chapel of the Three Kings ).

Since the conclusion of the Lateran Treaty in 1929, the Palais is located in the extraterritorial possession of the Holy See.
